Please join us at the Vernon Lodge for the last evening meeting of the year:

May 20th - Carol Wutzke, Woman of the year 2008 will be our speaker. 

Carol was brought up in Vernon, British Columbia, in an environment that introduced her to the work which she loves and enjoys - serving the Immigrant population. The family home served countless German displaced persons in the late 40’s and 50’s, so it was a natural ‘shoe-in’ for Carol to eventually volunteer and assist with the influx of the Vietnamese and Laotian refugees arrival in Vernon.  Observing that there wasn’t a coordinated agency for settlement, Carol and an ESL Teacher applied for funding and Vernon Immigrant Services Society was created!

As Executive Director of ‘Vernon and District Immigrant Services Society’, Carol’s passion is assisting Newcomers and others who have been here longer for their settlement, language acquisition, employment, under-employment and for affirmative action regarding Internationally Trained Professional’s credentialing and for them to have equal access to practice in their professions.

Carol has represented the North Okanagan as a member of the ‘Citizenship and Immigration Canada Advisory Council’ to the British Columbia Director General from 2000 - 2004, and is currently representing the Okanagan region for the Immigrant Integration Coordinating Committee.  She has volunteered on several Not-for-Profit Boards, steering committees and actively volunteers her time and energy to Vernon & District Immigrant Services.

Carol is married and has three adult children and two grand-children.
